City Council Approves Formation of Public Safety Oversight Commission

The new panel will be comprised of 11 residents of Santa Monica, appointed by the Council, and tasked to provide oversight of the Santa Monica Police Department and work with SMPD to recommend "appropriate proposed reforms to its policies and practices."

Landlords Can’t Legally Evict In LA

Mayor Eric Garcetti sent a reminder out Tuesday that landlords in the City of Los Angeles cannot legally evict tenants if they are unable to pay rent because of COVID-19.

City Appoints Public Works Director Susan Cline as New Acting Assistant City Manager

The Acting Assistant City Manager position is slated for a six-month term beginning January 18, 2021, the city said. Interim City Manager Lane Dilg leaves the City this Spring, reportedly because her husband is taking a position in the Biden administration. So presumably when Dilg leaves, Cline will move into the top position.

Councilmember Sue Himmelrich was selected by a 5 – 2 vote margin to serve as Mayor for two years during a Dec. 8 City Council meeting. But residents have since voiced concerns of potential Brown Act violations, so council will redo a vote on Tuesday, Jan. 12 after public comment.

Congress approves $25 billion in rental assistance
