A coalition of apartment owners has sued the Rent Control Board alleging the board’s prohibition on charging tenants for water use is a violation of state vacancy decontrol laws.

May 25, 2016 -- Slow-growth activists’ LUVE Initiative hasn't even qualified for Santa Monica’s November ballot yet, but at least two groups are preparing campaigns to oppose it.

Santa Monica Forward filed paperwork with the City last week to form an opposition committee. And this week a new committee was created called Housing and Opportunity for a Modern Economy (HOME).

Light Rail Brings Changes to Santa Monica

May 23, 2016 -- A new Santa Monica era began Friday with the opening of the Expo light rail line. And this era is about more than trains and the sprucing up of areas next to the train stations. Several developments will soon be popping up along or near the rail’s path.

7-story building approved at former Fred Segal site

City Council has approved a Development Agreement for a new 7-story building at the site formerly occupied by Fred Segal (500 Broadway).

...the developer will provide land for a new, separate, affordable housing project at 1626 Lincoln Blvd. The 100 percent affordable project will be managed by Community Corporation of Santa Monica and include 64 residential units.

Adding 4,411 new daily car trips to Santa Monica by approving more massive development projects is our City Council’s idea of solving the jobs housing imbalance ratio. That’s what they did one and a half weeks ago on May 10^th, 2016. Unanimously, arrogantly, and with no reservation, the council buttoned down the hatches and stuck to their guns. They’re at it again. Another six-zip vote as Mayor Tony Vasquez puts it.

May 17, 2015 -- It is about to get more expensive for Santa Monica landlords to disregard maintenance needs and reduce tenants' amenities.

The Rent Control Board last Thursday raised by approximately 45.5 percent the amount of money the City can require in rent reduction if a landlord disregards needed maintenance or reduces amenities.
