SANTA MONICA, Calif. – Last night, Santa Monica welcomed two new Councilmembers and one returning Councilmember in an installation ceremony. Following Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk Dean C. Logan's certification of the final results for the 2022 General Election, City Clerk Denise Anderson-Warren swore in Councilmembers Caroline Torosis and Jesse Zwick, elected to four-year terms, and returning Councilmember Lana Negrete, also elected to a four-year term.

The newly installed City Council selected Gleam Davis to serve a one-year term as Santa Monica's mayor with Phil Brock serving a one-year term for the second year of the two-year mayoral term. Lana Negrete was selected as mayor pro tempore for two years.

The Los Angeles City Council will vote on a motion submitted by councilmember Mike Bonin to remove a public bidding process for selling land to a nonprofit organization for affordable housing.

The motion–set to be voted on Wednesday– cites an Administrative Code that allows the private sale of city-owned Property, avoiding what is otherwise required as a public process.

The Property, located adjacent to Venice High School at 12901 Venice Blvd., is being used by the nonprofit organization Disability Community Rights Center (DCRC).

You might as well have $42.5 billion, and it would go to friends of the elected officials. As it stands now in Santa Monica your $42.5 million homeless budget is essentially a jobs program for the loyalists who support the liberal left that you keep electing in the city.

While City officials continue to search for ways to halt the construction of 16 new large residential developments that have secured vested rights to be built around Santa Monica due to the City’s failure to comply with state housing plan guidelines, the implementation process has begun for programs included in the now approved 6th Cycle Housing element.

Tuesday night's vote for mayor could test the two-year-old Change coalition on the Council as two members are expected to vie for the mostly ceremonial post.

Councilmember Phil Brock, who finished first in 2020 heading the slate that was swept into office by a voter revolt, wants to serve a two-year term as mayor.

A healthy city will need to balance economic & resource efficiency – accommodating growth while lowering resource consumption. And even with computers & teleconferencing, face-to-face opportunities will still prevail. But with LA County’s sprawl, enormous distances to jobs with public transportation while also managing childcare is not acceptable.

So how do we keep Santa Monica from also falling deeper into this abyss? How do we stop Developers from “piecemealing” our city which has proven very expensive. There are 5 objectives I feel the City Council should consider to keep Santa Monica from continuing to crumble still further!
