SANTA MONICA RENT CONTROL BOARD NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING Thursday, April 14, 2022

The Board will hold a public hearing on the feasibility of certain amendments to the City Charter during the Santa Monica Rent Control Board meeting on Thursday, April 14, 2022 at 7:00 p.m. via teleconference:

1)Whether the Board should recommend that the City of Santa Monica adopt an amendment to the City Charter requiring the registration of all non-rent-controlled rental units;

2)Whether the Board should recommend that Section 1806(a)(8)(iv) of the Rent Control Charter Amendment (RCCA) be amended to require that an owner intend to occupy the unit for at least three years instead of one year;

3)Whether the Board should recommend that Section 1806(a)(8)(v) of the RCCA be amended to require an owner to re-offer the unit to the displaced tenant if the owner fails to reside in the unit for at least three years and to allow an owner 60 days, instead of 30 days, to take occupancy of the unit.

4)Whether the Board should recommend that Section 1803(e) of the RCCA be amended to allow Commissioners to be elected to a maximum of three full terms to align with City elected officials; and

5)Whether the Board should recommend that Section 1803(d) of the RCCA be amended to state that an election need not be held if the number of qualified candidates does not exceed the number of open board positions.
